Valley density-wave and multiband superconductivity in iron-based pnictide superconductors

چکیده
The key feature of the Fe-based superconductors is their quasi-two-dimensional multiband Fermi surface. By relating the problem to a negative U Hubbard model and its superconducting ground state, we show that the defining instability of such a Fermi surface is the valley density-wave VDW , a combined spin/charge densitywave at the wave vector connecting the electron and hole valleys. As the valley parameters change by doping or pressure, the fictitious superconductor experiences “Zeeman splitting,” eventually going into a nonuniform “Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinikov” FFLO state, an itinerant and often incommensurate VDW of the real world, characterized by the metallic conductivity from the ungapped remnants of the Fermi surface. When Zeeman splitting exceeds the “Chandrasekhar-Clogston” limit, the “FFLO” state disappears and the VDW is destabilized. Near this point, the VDW fluctuations and interband pair repulsion are essential ingredients of high-Tc superconductivity in Fe pnictides.

Electron-Phonon Properties of Pnictide Superconductors
In this paper we discuss the normal and superconducting state properties of two pnictide superconductors, LaOFeAs and LaONiAs, using Migdal-Eliashberg theory and density functional perturbation theory. For pure LaOFeAs, the calculated electron-phonon coupling constant λ = 0.21 and logarithmic-averaged frequency ωln = 206K, give a maximum Tc of 0.8 K, using the standard Migdal-Eliashberg theory....
متن کاملIs the nature of magnetic order in copper-oxides and in iron- pnictides different?
We use the results of first-principles electronic structure calculations and a strong coupling perturbation approach, together with general theoretical arguments, to illustrate the differences in super-exchange interactions between the copper-oxides and iron-pnictides. We show that the two magnetic ground states can be understood in a simple manner within the same theoretical foundation. Contra...
متن کاملUnusual doping dependence of the electronic structure and coexistence of spin-density-wave and superconductor phases in single crystalline Sr1-xKxFe2As2.
The nature of the spin-density wave (SDW) and its relation with superconductivity are crucial issues in the newly discovered iron-pnictide superconductors. Particularly, it is unclear whether the superconducting phase and SDW are truly exclusive from each other. We here report splittings of the band structures in Sr1-xKxFe2As2 (x=0, 0.1, 0.18), and their unusual doping dependence. Our data on s...
متن کاملCompeting Magnetic Fluctuations in Iron Pnictide Superconductors: Role of Ferromagnetic Spin Correlations Revealed by NMR.
In the iron pnictide superconductors, theoretical calculations have consistently shown enhancements of the static magnetic susceptibility at both the stripe-type antiferromagnetic and in-plane ferromagnetic (FM) wave vectors. However, the possible existence of FM fluctuations has not yet been examined from a microscopic point of view. Here, using ^{75}As NMR data, we provide clear evidence for ...
متن کاملModulated superfluid density in an iron-pnictide superconductor
Studies of the iron-pnictide materials have dominated the field of superconductivity for the last two years. While several different families of iron-based superconductors have been discovered, they all tend to exhibit antiferromagnetic order that gives way to superconductivity when the electron density is tuned by adjusting the chemical composition, thus leading to obvious comparisons with cop...
